“IF I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THEN A DIFFERENCE I MUST MAKE”

This is Debra’s motto and she lives by it. She is very involved in the Sarnia-Lambton community. So much so that Debra was recognized by the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce at their 2008 Outstanding Business Awards as the “Volunteer of the Year” for Sarnia-Lambton. This award was sponsored by the Imperial Theatre in honour of the memory of George Wood Jr.

Annually it was awarded to a person who has achieved an outstanding level of volunteerism for the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce and the community at large. Debra earned this honour by being an active member on the Board of Directors, a member of the Executive, Government Affairs committee, and the Membership committee of the Chamber. She was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Chartered Professional Accountants Sarnia-Lambton Chapter for 2006 and 2007. She has been active in the chapter as a volunteer since 1997. Debra hosts an annual Tax Preparation Service for the CGA association. This service is provided free of charge to qualifying senior citizens and low income earners. In June of 2008 Debra was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of CGA Ontario and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Debra is committed to ensuring the youth of our community understands that they are responsible for their own destiny. Through self awareness, planning, and determination anyone can succeed and find fulfillment in their chosen career. She represents the CGA Association of Ontario and Junior Achievement when she visits grade 7, 8, 11, 12, and college students in Lambton County.

Debra has been treasurer of a number of local groups and organizations. She is the past treasurer of Christ Anglican Church, St. Stephens Anglican Church (treasurer’s support), and the Point Edward Skating Club (past treasurer). She has also spent time canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
